Copyright Registration in India
Copyright protection in India arises automatically upon creation of an original work - no registration is required for copyright to exist. However, registration of copyright creates a public record, provides evidentiary proof of ownership in legal proceedings, and significantly strengthens your legal position in infringement disputes.
IPAGAIN provides comprehensive copyright registration services for all categories of creative works, helping creators, businesses, and developers establish documented ownership of their intellectual creations and enforce their rights against infringement effectively.
What Can Be Registered for Copyright?
- Literary Works: Books, articles, novels, manuals, dissertations, course material, scripts, and written content
- Artistic Works: Paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, logos, graphic designs, and illustrations
- Musical Works: Compositions, lyrics, jingles, soundtracks, and audio recordings
- Dramatic Works: Plays, screenplays, choreography, and theatrical scripts
- Cinematographic Films: Feature films, short films, documentaries, and video content

Copyright Registration Process
Copyright registration in India is handled by the Copyright Office, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The application is filed in Form XIV (or online) with the prescribed fee. Once filed, the application undergoes examination. If no objection is raised within 30 days, the copyright is registered and a certificate issued. The entire process typically takes 2–6 months.
IPAGAIN prepares and files copyright applications professionally, ensuring correct categorisation, accurate description of the work, proper declaration, and complete documentation to minimise delays and maximise the chance of smooth registration.
